Guided Walk - All Audiences

Did you miss out on the on the Olympic tickets but are you curious what all the fuss is about? Or are you attending an event this summer but would you like to get a peek preview?

On 17 June 2012 Vlaamse Club London are organising a guided walk around the London 2012 Olympic Site. Our guide Patricia has been organising tours as an official Blue Badge Guide for many years and this tour is her most popular one at the moment.

We will discover the area of Stratford and Newham where the Olympic site is situated along the river Lea. This eastern area of London was until recently one of the poorest boroughs in Britain and has a fascinating industrial history.

During the walk, you will hear how this area was specifically chosen for the London Games, how things have developed in the last years, the architecture and green aspects of the buildings,  about some key organisations involved in organising the London games and who paid for it all. What is the legacy after the games? Are the buildings going to be reused for the local community and what are the prospects for people living in the area after the games? We will also hear about  the history of the Olympic Games from ancient times to today.

This pleasant walk will last about 1.45h and covers max 2,5 km.

We will end with a drink at The Cow, at Westfield Stratford City.
